I was "THE WRITER" at Shamrock Springs Elementary's Career Day. What a fun morning--four groups of kids, third and fourth graders, all of whom chose writing as one of the four professions they wanted to learn about. They had to gather some basic information for their log sheets, so they asked questions about my education, but mostly I talked about the various kinds of writing I've done in my life and told stories about my writing and video production experiences. I also gave a writing prompt and had them read their first few sentences to the group.
They were excited to tell me about their aspirations and the stories and novels they're working on. It was quite a wonderful day for me, especially when I ran into a mom later in the day who recognized me. Her daughter had been in one of my groups and said she was so inspired by the morning that she was going to write a series of novels!
IF THE KID GETS PUBLISHED BEFORE I DO, I'M GONNA BE ROYALLY TICKED OFF...
