I'll be the first to admit that I didn't return to writing until my son started preschool, as it was very hard to concentrate while raising a little boy who took VERY SHORT naps. He's a third grader, but it's still tough to find quiet time--there are meals to plan, shop for, and prepare, my mother-in-law to deal with (Alzheimers and lives with us), dishes, laundry, and the like. I do most of my writing at the dining room table with activity and noise all around me. I'm not a great sleeper, so if I find myself up at 4am, I sneak down to the kitchen to write in peace, but almost inevitably, somebody wakes up and joins me!
Does all that constitute an excuse not to write? Sure, unless you want to be a writer. Then you write anyway. Somehow, some way, in spite of it all. Writers write.
